Lego Cupcake!

Made using the 3-D Lego designer (you can download it free, design lego stuffs and then order it!)

My Lego cupcake would of been $42.90 to order. Maybe one day I'll get it. For now, I'm waiting on my Mum to send my Lego that she's kept from my childhood, hehe.

I'll do a "real" cupcake related post tomorrow. Promise.

Zombie Cupcakes!

Boredom late at night and an obsession with cupcakes can do weird things to a woman.. like make her produce cartoons like this.

Zombie cupcakes! Remind me to attempt a zombie cupcake recipe.

Frosting overdose?

I woke up and really wanted to bake. That's my usual response to a good day. It's so beautiful outside and I thought a picnic with the kids would be great and what goes better with a picnic than cupcakes? (and then the unslaught of ants that appear suddenly) Unfortunately I didn't have any butter and I can't use my usual cupcake recipe without it. I could of used margarine but it doesn't give that fluffiness I like. So out came an imported cupcake mix from the back of the cupboard to use.

I got this box mix from my local U.S food importer. I've been dying to try Funfetti cupcakes.. and this was the only confetti like cupcake mix I could find. I was surprised to find that it only needed water, oil and egg whites (never had to use just egg whites in a mix before) so it was easy to mix together. Oh the joy of seeing all the little bits of colour in the batter. The cake batter was uber sweet and that's always an indication to me that the cupcakes will turn out fluffy and good.

23 minutes later they were done. 10 mins later they were cool enough to frost.. and you have no idea how impatient kids are when there are yummy looking cupcakes cooling in the kitchen. I had to ban them from the kitchen until the cupcakes were warm and then I had no chance getting rid of them while I piped pink frosting onto them. Then again, I'd be waiting for my cupcake excitedly too.

Not my best frosting job. I stupidly used disposable plastic piping bags that broke with too much frosting (got to remind myself not to overload the bags) I think I needed more icing sugar to keep the frosting stiffer but it was good enough for a weekend cupcake job. These cupcakes won't last long enough for anyone to care about how the frosting looks. I even used up another 12 of the 100 Elmo cupcake liners I still had from a friend's birthday.

Overall I didn't mind the confetti cupcakes. They were OK but I still was a little disappointed in the overal taste. Fluffy, check. Cute, check. Full of cupcakey flavour, meh. It needed a little more buttery/vanilla taste to it. I might have to try and attempt my own Confetti cupcakes. It can't be that hard. Maybe just stir through some 100s and 1000s through the mix.

Off to douse myself in the bowl of leftover frosting. Hence the frosting overdose title, lol.

Why I picked cupcake overdose

Sometimes after I bake something yummy, I find myself sitting through the third helping wondering if it's possible to die from too much cake. I think it's possible. Probably from choking or a sugar like overdose where the body goes into a lapse of too much yumminess. That's how I came up with cupcake overdose. I think that one day that's how I'll die. It'll be the most spectular death ever.

I'm out of icing sugar so there's no chance of cute cupcakes until payday when I can spend a little bit more on things I don't need (icing sugar isn't a staple.. hehe)

I've been contemplating recreating Poptart flavours into cupcakes. I bought some Strawberry Milkshake poptarts from a U.S food import store the other day and they were beautiful. If they were cupcakes then they'd be in my top 10 cupcake flavours. Just watch this spot to see if I can recreate the same flavour. I'm even thinking a strawberry milkshake cheesecake is in order. Of course it'll be in mini cheesecake cupcake form. They have less calories that way.

I'm off to just stare at pictures of cupcakes until I can manipulate matter and make them appear before me.

Evil Dead Cupcakes

I can't believe no-one has made cupcakes themed on the Evil Dead movies yet? I mean, zombie cupcakes are fine and all but if you want truly gruesome and funny cupcakes, wouldn't you go the Sam Raimi/Bruce Campbell way? I know I did.. and I know they'll be made again with my next Evil Dead movie marathon.

Now, I'm not going to write up the recipe. There isn't any special way of making these. It's a basic vanilla cupcake with choc frosting deal... except I added some Cakemate red and white decorating icing from those fantastic pens you can buy and a toy chainsaw that came with a Eminem figurine I've now lost. I kept the chainsaw and Jason hockey mask for emergencies such as this.
(note: I photoshopped out the word 'Eminem' that was on the chainsaw)

I always tell my kids to not play with their food and then I go and do this.

The cupcakes I made were quite fail worthy.. but with Evil Dead cupcakes.. they don't need to be perfect. Ugly cupcakes add to the effect. They were still yummy or so my kids said.

I highly recommend drizzling the icing pen up from higher up.. it gives a lovely squiggly effect to the icing. Also gives the "blood" icing a good splatter effect. Dexter would be proud.
